About Sanibel CHR: Board Members
Michael Cuscaden, President
Michael Cuscaden has been a Sanibel resident since 1996. He is a former member and past president of the Board of Directors of the Ding Darling Wildlife Society, for which he continues to be an active volunteer. He is also a past Board member of the Committee of the Islands, and a former Board member and volunteer for the Bailey-Matthew Shell Museum. He also is a former member of the City of Sanibel Traffic Committee, and presently serves on the City of Sanibel General Employees Pension Board.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Cuscaden attended Knox College and graduated from Florida Southern College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He retired in 1994, after a 39-year career in the life and health insurance industry, with a variety of assignments including senior officer positions. During this time, he was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 8 years, and served as Chairman of its Triangle Chapter. He also was a Board member and President of United Cerebral Palsy of North Carolina for 12 years, and a member of the Board of Directors of United Way for 6 years.
Mr. Cuscaden first visited Sanibel in 1958; he and his wife made Sanibel their permanent home in 1996. He has 4 children and 3 grandchildren, and enjoys reading, volunteering, biking and cruising.
Mr. Cuscaden has been a member of the CHR Board of Directors since February 2004, and currently serves as President.
