About Sanibel CHR: Board Members
The
12 member Board and its Committees provide immeasurable hours of
volunteer services to the City of Sanibel's Below
Market Rate Housing (BMRH) program.
The Board has several Committees. The Landlord/Tenant Committee
alone donates over 300 volunteer hours a year handling all applicant
and tenant-related matters. Annual reevaluations of all households
in the BMRH program are required 90 days before the end of each
lease. The Committee reviews each tenant’s new reevaluation
application material regarding income, IRS material, confirmation
by staff of job title, wage hours, and references with employers,
rent and utility payment history, results of the quarterly inspections
of the units, and relevant grant regulations. Committee members
also accompany staff on some unit inspections, each unit being inspected
four times a year.
In addition to recommending tenants and applicants for new leases,
the Committee resolves other applicant and tenant matters, and also
develops annual recommendations to the Sanibel City Council about
the point system for selection, the rent ranges and income limits,
and the semi-annual market rate rent surveys CHR is required to
complete.
In 2005, Landlord/Tenant Committee members and CHR staff also personally
visited over 300 businesses and offices on Sanibel, to inform employers
and employees about the BMRH program and provide applications to
interested persons. The Committee also submits BMRH fliers to the
City of Sanibel at least twice a year to include in all the City
payroll envelopes, and gives BMRH applications to the City’s
Administrative Services Manager to give to current and prospective
City employees.
The Executive Committee is composed of the Officers and the Chairs
of the other Committees, and meets as needed prior to some monthly
Board meetings to review information and develop recommendations.
