About Sanibel CHR: Welcome from the Executive Director

Thank you for visiting our website. Sanibel is truly a unique place. It is special in many ways. It has beautiful year round weather. It has a spectacular natural environment yet blended with exciting and adventurous tourism and recreational activities. There is a natural civility with diversity and harmony between nature and the people who live here. The people of Sanibel enjoy a lifestyle of cooperation, community involvement, and fulfillment. There is a sense that everyone's input and contribution is worthwhile.

Community Housing & Resources, Inc. (CHR) was founded in 1978 by a group of forward looking citizens that understood that diversity of the community is a principal to be fostered. The new government of the 1974 incorporated community established a long term insightful constitution, referred to as the Sanibel Plan. This plan serves as a pathway for progress, as determined by the citizens of Sanibel. The plan established the concept of the Below Market Rate Housing Program which is administered by CHR under contract with the City of Sanibel . Our program, as evolved, is explained in detail in this website.
