Housing Programs
BMRH:
Below Market Rate Housing on Sanibel
A Program of Affordable
Rental Housing for the City of Sanibel
BMRH, Below Market Rate Housing,
is a unique program started by the City of Sanibel in 1983 with
the purpose of providing affordable housing for persons of limited
means who work on Sanibel but can’t afford to live there,
and for longtime residents who can no longer afford Sanibel rents.
Priority is given to those persons who live or work on Sanibel.
Older and retired persons are also eligible. A 12 unit complex for
senior citizens is included in the program. Click

Focus on the Future
Employer Assisted Housing
Having affordable housing opportunities near Sanibel employees’
jobs can help Sanibel attract and retain qualified workers for a
variety of positions. Our area has low unemployment and high competition
for the same potential employees, causing some employers to offer
sign-on bonuses and other incentives. Having Sanibel employees close
to their work sites on Sanibel would also provide enhanced services
to the community, especially in emergency situations. In turn, employees
would spend less time and money on an often lengthy commute to and
from work and would be able to be residents of and participants
in the Sanibel community. Retention of qualified and skilled workers
would also significantly lessen the costs associated with employee
turn-over and training. Click
