CHR ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBERS
SANIBEL -- Sanibel residents Michael F. Cuscaden and Elaine C. Schaeffer
have been elected members of the Board of Directors of Community
Housing & Resources, Inc. (CHR). Phyllis Bogen, Board president,
announced the election of the two new Board members this week.
"Mike and Elaine have great enthusiasm for Sanibel's affordable
housing program. We look forward to having the Island benefit from
their input and support," Bogen said.
Michael Cuscaden is currently President of the Ding Darling Wildlife
Society. He is a past Senior Warden at St. Michael and All Angels
Episcopal Church, and has served on the Board of Directors of the
Bailey-Matthew Shell Museum, and also as a United Way Board member.
Elaine Schaeffer is the Program Coordinator for Child Care of
Southwest Florida, Inc., and an Adjunct Professor at Edison Community
College. She is President of the Lee County Association for the
Education of Young Children, and a member of state and national
children’s education associations.
CHR is the private non-profit corporation which administers the
Below Market Rate Housing (BMRH) program, which was established
by the Sanibel City Council in 1983, in compliance with State requirements.
This locally designed and implemented community program provides
affordable housing for persons of limited means who have Sanibel
work history, as well as for others who are longtime Sanibel residents
with insufficient funds to remain on the Island. CHR has begun construction
of Woodhaven, a development of twelve new BMRH residences, located
on Casa Ybel Road directly behind Bank of the Islands. When completed,
Woodhaven will bring the total number of BMRH units on Sanibel to
64.
For further information about CHR, to apply for BMRH, or to become
a member of the organization, contact CHR at 472-1189, or visit
the office at the Sanibel Civic Center (old library), at 2401 Library
Way.
